New Delhi: Severe floods have wreaked havoc in Nepal, affecting a large number of people. Large-scale measures are being taken to tackle the flood disaster, and efforts are underway to relocate residents from affected areas to safer locations. Meanwhile, India has also extended a helping hand to Nepal. India has delivered an initial consignment of 10 tonnes of aid, including medicines and rations,s to Kathmandu.
The Indian government is receiving widespread praise on social media for assisting Nepal during this disaster; people everywhere are lauding India for helping a neighboring nation in distress. This is not the first time; India has consistently assisted its neighbors during times of crisis in the past.
India Extends a Helping Hand to Nepal
Sudden floods in Nepal have made life extremely difficult for the people. So far, over 150 lives have been lost, and hundreds of buildings have been reduced to rubble. Debris washed in by the floodwaters has made breathing difficult. India has stepped in to assist Nepal as it grapples with this crisis. To support ongoing rescue and relief operations in the neighbouring country, India has dispatched 10 tonnes of humanitarian aid, disaster relief supplies, and essential medicines.
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister DrS. Jaishankar stated on Wednesday night (around 9:19 PM) that India stands firmly with Nepal and its people as the Himalayan nation battles a severe flash flood crisis on the Bhote Koshi River. Flash floods on Wednesday caused extensive loss of life and property in settlements across Rasuwa and adjoining districts.
India Has Always Stood by Nepal in Times of Crisis: Ministry of External Affairs
Following the delivery of aid, Randhir Jaiswal, Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, shared a significant message on the social media platform X regarding the assistance sent to Nepal. He wrote that India has always stood by Nepal during times of crisis. Ambassador Naveen Srivastava handed over the 10 tonnes of humanitarian aid from India to Mr Khadak Raj Paudel, the Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation. This aid is intended to support relief operations following the devastating floods. The assistance reached Nepal just two hours after Jaishankar’s post on X. The aid arrived in Kathmandu.
President of India Expresses Grief
Indian President Droupadi Murmu expressed her grief over the flood disaster in Nepal via social media, conveying her condolences to those affected. She wrote, “I extend my deepest condolences to the Honourable President of Nepal, Mr Ramchandra Paudel, and the people of Nepal regarding the devastation caused by the flash floods.” She further added, “We stand in solidarity with Nepal during this difficult time. India is ready to assist the Government of Nepal in its relief and rescue operations for those affected by this disaster.
PM Modi Speaks with the Government of Nepal
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Nepal’s Prime Minister Balen Shah over the phone on Wednesday and expressed condolences for the loss of life and property caused by the disaster. He stated that India is prepared to provide all possible humanitarian assistance to Nepal and expressed solidarity with the people of the neighbouring country during this crisis. PM Modi also wrote on the social media platform X that he had spoken with PM Balendra Shah and expressed grief over the loss of life and property due to the floods in Nepal.
