New Delhi: Hopes for a peaceful resolution between the US and Iran are rapidly fading. While tensions persist, Pakistan’s Army Chief, Asim Munir, is currently visiting Tehran. There is speculation that this visit might pave the way for a solution regarding the Middle East situation. Tehran is adopting an even tougher stance in response to the new economic sanctions imposed by the US.
Tehran has clearly stated that it is prepared to face the situation. The Iranian government affirmed that it would make every effort to overcome this economic crisis through unity. Notably, the US recently imposed new sanctions on approximately 60 individuals, entities, and vessels to exert economic pressure on Iran.
Iran’s Warning to the US
Following the US sanctions, the Iranian government issued a clear warning. Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani stated on the social media platform X that the government and the President would work to steer the country out of these difficult times with wisdom and strong resolve.
While acknowledging the economic challenges facing Iran, the government maintains that these difficulties can be overcome through the right decisions. Mohajerani’s statement follows the US announcement of new economic pressure. Meanwhile, Washington aims to further restrict Iran’s revenue streams and its access to international financial networks.
What Did the Iranian Minister Say?
Ali Madanizadeh, Iran’s Minister of Economy, made a striking statement regarding the new US sanctions. He claimed that the US cannot completely halt Iran’s economic activities. According to Madanizadeh, President Masoud Pezeshkian’s government had been preparing to deal with potential new sanctions for quite some time. He added that Iran possesses its own methods to counter US pressure.
Why Was Economic Pressure Increased?
It is worth noting that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the launch of a new economic campaign against Iran on August 24. Meanwhile, the US stated that it intends to increase pressure on Iran’s oil revenues, financial networks, and other economic avenues.
Under these new measures, approximately 60 individuals, entities, and vessels have been targeted. The US has also warned other countries and companies that continuing to do business with Iran puts them at risk of being cut off from the US financial system. Consequently, economic pressure on Iran continues to mount.
