Trump’s call to Munir before departure
According to a Reuters report, the initiative for this conversation came from US President Donald Trump himself, although the details were not made public. The White House Press Secretary’s office has not issued an official comment regarding the content of the discussion.
This call from Donald Trump to the Pakistani Army Chief came shortly after he warned that any country providing economic support to Iran would face severe consequences, a move intended to exert pressure on Tehran. In response, Iran shocked everyone by threatening to completely halt all oil exports from the Persian Gulf.
Key issues for discussion with top Iranian leaders
Amidst the heightened tensions in West Asia, Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi have arrived in Tehran. The Pakistan Army has officially confirmed the visit, describing it as an effort to promote regional peace and stability. Munir is scheduled to meet with strategists close to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.

According to reports, a Pakistani source indicated a significant lack of mutual trust between the US and Iran—a gap that could potentially be bridged through Munir’s visits.
Munir visits Iran for the fourth time in six months
This marks Asim Munir’s fourth visit to Tehran in less than six months. Commenting on this, Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, stated that these frequent visits by Munir make it clear that, despite various ups and downs, the path for diplomatic dialogue between the US and Iran runs through Pakistan.
Clarifying the Iranian government’s stance, the agency noted that Tehran’s initial demand is for the US to first honour the commitments it had signed up to in the ‘Islamabad Memorandum.’
