New Delhi: The monsoon is currently at its peak across various parts of the country, resulting in heavy rainfall. Regions across North India, including Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, are witnessing heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Various parts of Uttar Pradesh have been experiencing rainfall since the morning.
Temperatures have dropped due to the rain, providing people with relief from the scorching heat. Rainfall continues in several areas of Bihar and Jharkhand as well. Torrential rain persists in many parts of South India, where water levels in several rivers have risen. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall warnings for several states. Details regarding the weather forecast for specific regions are provided below.
Heavy Rainfall Warnings for These States
According to the India Meteorological Department, warnings for torrential rain have been issued for several states. The IMD has predicted heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab.
Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected in Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Assam. The IMD has also forecast rain in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. Strong winds are likely in several of these states during this period.
Heavy Rain Warning for Odisha
Odisha has been battered by rain for 48 consecutive hours, leading to a grim situation. Flood-like conditions prevail in several areas. Due to the adverse weather, the leave of government officials and employees has been cancelled, and they have been instructed to report for duty immediately. The Meteorological Department has issued rain warnings for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar. Schools and colleges in these districts have also been closed.
Weather Forecast for West Bengal
According to the Meteorological Department, a heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Bankura, Jhargram, Howrah, Kolkata, and Durgapur for Monday. The IMD has forecast heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in the districts of Paschim Medinipur, Malda, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Purba Bardhaman.
Likelihood of Heavy Rain in UP and Bihar
The Meteorological Department has also predicted heavy rainfall for Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. In UP, there is a possibility of heavy rain across 25 districts, including Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, and Varanasi. The IMD has noted a rise in the water level of the Ganges in Varanasi; consequently, an alert has been issued for the riverbanks (ghats). People have been advised to avoid venturing too close to the ghats during the rainy weather.
