New Delhi: If you are looking to open a Fixed Deposit (FD) with a bank, worry no more. We are here to tell you about a golden opportunity. You can earn substantial returns through bank FDs without any hassle. Several banks are currently offering attractive deals, especially for senior citizens. Small finance banks are leading the way in this regard.

Most of them are offering interest rates exceeding 8% on various FD schemes, with some even offering as much as 8.50%. This is a fantastic opportunity for senior citizens, one that shouldn’t be missed. Investing in FDs also ensures the safety of your capital. Generally, banks offer higher interest rates to senior citizens and super senior citizens compared to regular customers.

High Interest Rates for Senior Citizens

Customers stand to gain significantly by opening FDs with small finance banks. For instance, banks are offering 8% interest to regular customers and 8.50% to senior citizens on FDs with tenures ranging from 23 months and 1 day to 27 months. Additionally, Jana Small Finance Bank offers 8.30% interest on 2-to-3-year FDs, while Unity Small Finance Bank offers 8.30% on 501-day FDs.

Meanwhile, Suryoday Small Finance Bank offers 8.25% on 30-month FDs, Utkarsh Small Finance Bank offers 8.25% on 666-day FDs, and Equitas Small Finance Bank offers 8.24% on FDs with a tenure of 3 years and 1 day.

Attractive Interest Rates from Major Banks

Major banks are also offering lucrative interest rates on fixed deposits. SBI offers 6.90% interest to senior citizens on 2-3 year FDs, HDFC Bank offers 7.00% on fixed deposits of approximately 3 years, and ICICI Bank provides up to 7.10% interest to senior customers on FDs ranging from 3 years and 1 day to 5 years.

Small Finance Banks are regulated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Additionally, coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank is provided under the insurance framework implemented by the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC). The scheme is subject to its specific terms and conditions.

Know what is important before investing.

It is worth noting that various banks offer attractive FD interest rates to senior citizens. However, before investing, senior citizens should not select an FD scheme solely based on high interest rates; it is crucial to consider factors such as the bank’s financial health, tenure, premature withdrawal terms, and applicable deposit insurance limits, and to invest only after conducting thorough due diligence.
