Lok Sabha could not function amid opposition protests, and Om Birla appealed for cooperation.
The protests and uproar continued in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Amid protests by opposition MPs, the House was adjourned until 2 pm. Earlier, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had appealed to the MPs to allow the House to function.
The Speaker said that many important bills are to be discussed in the Parliament. In such a situation, both the ruling party and the opposition should work together so that important legislative work can proceed without any hindrance. He asked the MPs to adopt the path of debate to put forth their views and not create disruption in the House.
Om Birla appealed to the ruling party and the opposition to listen to each other and reach a consensus for discussion. However, despite his appeal, the opposition MPs continued to protest.
Demand for answers from the government on the NEET issue
The ongoing deadlock in Parliament is also due to the police action against students protesting against the NEET paper leak. The opposition is demanding answers from the government regarding the use of force by the police during the student protest on July 20.
The government had said on Monday that Home Minister Amit Shah may answer on this issue in the House. The government asked the opposition not to back down from the debate and listen to the Home Minister’s reply.
However, the opposition is continuously registering its objection on this issue. MPs say that the government should give a clear answer regarding the students’ protest and police action.
All eyes are on Amit Shah’s response
With the government announcing Home Minister Amit Shah’s response, all eyes are now on his response in the Lok Sabha. The government says that along with presenting its views, the opposition should also listen to the minister’s side.
At the same time, the opposition wants that the police action against the students should be discussed and the government’s position on the entire matter should be clear.
This issue is currently affecting the atmosphere of the Lok Sabha. Due to lack of consensus between the two parties, the proceedings are being repeatedly disrupted.
The Speaker said, “Both sides should come together.”
Om Birla said that Parliament can function effectively only when the ruling party and the opposition sit together and discuss issues. He appealed to the MPs that political differences are one thing, but it is everyone’s responsibility to run the proceedings of the House.
He said that discussion on important bills should not be stopped. MPs have every right to express their views, but disrupting the House for this is not the solution.
Despite this, the protest continued on Tuesday and the proceedings of the Lok Sabha had to be stopped till 2 pm.
What will happen after 2 o’clock?
Now the biggest question is whether the deadlock will end after the House proceedings begin at 2 pm. If the opposition continues its protest, discussion and work on important bills may be affected.
On the other hand, if the government responds to the Home Minister on the NEET issue and the opposition is ready for discussion, the way for further proceedings in the House may be opened.
Currently, the government and the opposition are face to face regarding police action on NEET protest. Tuesday also began with a deadlock in Parliament as the uproar continued despite the Speaker’s appeal.
Pressure on House Functioning Growing
