New Delhi: The Central Government appears to be very serious about farmers and is running specific schemes for their welfare. While political temperatures may be soaring during the monsoon session, the Modi government has brought a gift for farmers: the Union Cabinet has extended the tenure of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana by five years. The scheme will now continue for the next five years, ensuring farmers keep receiving benefits in the form of instalments.
The scheme will remain fully operational from the 2026-27 financial year through 2030-31. The Union Cabinet has approved this proposal. Additionally, the government has proposed a budget of over ₹3.15 lakh crore for the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, ensuring that eligible farmers continue to reap the scheme’s benefits.
Annual Amount Provided
Under the Modi government’s PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, farmers receive financial assistance of ₹6,000 annually. A sum of ₹2,000 is provided every four months; thus, the ₹6,000 is distributed in three instalments. The funds are transferred directly into the farmers’ accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The timing of the instalments is aligned with the crop cycle to enable farmers to sow their crops effectively. The government runs this scheme to protect farmers from debt. According to a report, more than 9 crore farmers have been consistently benefiting from this scheme.
Projected Expenditure
The Central Government has also announced the proposed budget for the scheme over the next five years. The plan involves an expenditure of ₹3,15,615 crore on the scheme during this period. The government states that this decision will provide farmers with regular income support, making it easier for them to cover essential farming-related expenses. This is expected to strengthen the farmers’ financial position.
Timely assistance for farming activities
According to the Central Government, instalments under this scheme are released at times when farmers need funds to purchase seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, and other agricultural inputs. This helps alleviate cash-flow issues for farmers and reduces the need to borrow money at high interest rates.
When will the next instalment arrive?
It is worth noting that 23 instalments of ₹2,000 have been released so far under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. Farmers are now eagerly awaiting the next instalment, the 24th. The government may release the 24th instalment of ₹2,000 in October.
The Central Government released the 23rd instalment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana on June 20, 2026. The funds were transferred to the farmers’ accounts via DBT. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi transferred an amount exceeding ₹18,880 crore to the bank accounts of more than 9.44 crore farmers from Hooghly, West Bengal.
