Statement by CM Suvendu Adhikari
Bengal Chief Minister (CM) Suvendu Adhikari made a significant statement, noting that it takes time—approximately six months—for the Pay Commission to submit its report. He stated that efforts to extend the benefits of the new pay structure would be made towards the end of the financial year, following the receipt of the Commission’s recommendations. He added that before submitting the report, the Commission would thoroughly review pay scales, allowances, and pension provisions. It is expected that the 7th Pay Commission will recommend a revised pay structure that takes current conditions into account. It is worth noting that the BJP had promised in its manifesto, prior to coming to power, to constitute the 7th Pay Commission within 45 days.
Furthermore, the Bengal government stated that work is underway to gradually eliminate the DA gap; the Bengal Chief Minister suvendhu adhikari mentioned that there is currently a 42% disparity compared to the central government, and efforts are being made to reduce this gap soon. In this context, the incumbent government also accused the previous administration, stating that the latter had delayed the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission report due to financial constraints.
