Monsoon Alert

New Delhi: The weather is set to take a turn for the worse once again in Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas. Monsoon rains have been disappointing so far; there was one spell of rain, but since then, scorching heat has been making life miserable for residents. Everyone is now looking forward to the rain. It is expected that the next three days will bring some relief to the people of Delhi-NCR.

Meanwhile, heavy rains are lashing the northeastern states, causing temperatures to drop significantly. Rainfall in mountainous regions has triggered landslides in several places, blocking some routes. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a heavy rain warning has been issued for 12 states, including Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, for the next 12 hours. Details regarding the weather forecast for specific regions are provided below.

Heavy Rain Warning for These States

According to the IMD, heavy rain warnings have been issued for Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi-NCR, and Rajasthan. The department has also issued alerts for heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Punjab. Additionally, alerts for significant rainfall have been issued for Jharkhand, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.

Rainfall activity has picked up in Madhya Pradesh, with several districts witnessing showers on Thursday evening. The IMD has predicted strong winds reaching speeds of up to 70 kmph. Rain alerts have also been issued for Bihar and Uttar Pradesh; the lack of rainfall so far has subjected people to humid, sultry heat.

Rainfall to Begin from July 17

The IMD has predicted a change in the weather due to a low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal. Monsoon activity is expected to gradually pick up starting Friday, July 17. Heavy rain warnings have been issued for several states for the next 12 to 15 hours, even though the monsoon has remained subdued in the northwest region so far.

Good rainfall is being observed in the eastern and hilly states. Rain warnings have also been issued for Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The anticipated rainfall is likely to provide relief from the heat. Meanwhile, people in Delhi-NCR are facing increased discomfort due to sultry, humid heat. A rise in temperatures is also likely.

Developing a Low-Pressure System in the Bay of Bengal

The impact of the low-pressure system forming in the Bay of Bengal has already begun to manifest in these states. According to the IMD, a spell of good rainfall is likely in the region over the next few hours.

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding increased rainfall activity driven by the low-pressure system forming over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining coasts of North Odisha and West Bengal. Significant rainfall is expected over the next seven days across several regions, including Northwest India, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Central India.
