New Delhi: A fierce conflict is ongoing between the United States and Iran, with both sides targeting each other’s positions. Iran has once again fully seized control of the Strait of Hormuz and announced its closure, disrupting global shipping routes. Iran is also launching missile attacks on vessels passing through this corridor.

An Indian sailor was killed in an attack in the Strait of Hormuz. The Indian government has adopted a firm stance following the death of the Indian sailor amidst escalating Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, off the coast of Oman. The Ministry of External Affairs summoned Iranian diplomats, including Mohammad Javad Hosseini, the Deputy Head of the Iranian Mission in New Delhi, to convey its concerns and seek an explanation.

Escalating Tension in Hormuz

Tensions remain high in the Strait of Hormuz following Iran’s aggressive actions. On Monday, the IRGC launched a major missile attack on two UAE-flagged oil tankers passing through Omani territorial waters in the strait. One Indian crew member was killed in the fierce attack, and six others, including Indian nationals, were critically injured. The Indian government has lodged a strong protest and expressed grave concern to Iran regarding the attack.

Iranian Diplomats Summoned in Delhi

In response to this serious incident, the Indian government immediately summoned Iranian diplomats in New Delhi. India has sought a response from the Iranian mission regarding the recent attacks on commercial vessels near the Omani coast.

Following the crucial meeting at the Ministry of External Affairs, Deputy Head Mohammad Javad Hosseini and other Iranian diplomats departed without making any public statement. There has been no official public reaction from the Iranian Embassy regarding this meeting so far.

India’s Major Move Amidst Threats in Hormuz

The Indian government has taken this step at a time when the situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains volatile due to tensions in West Asia. Commercial vessels in the region continue to face persistent threats. The Strait of Hormuz is considered a vital and sensitive waterway for global energy transit.

A significant portion of global trade, both imports and exports,s passes through this waterway. The escalating attacks on commercial vessels in this global shipping lane have raised concerns for many nations, including India, posing a direct threat to maritime trade and the safety of seafarers.

Tensions between the United States and Iran remain high, with no immediate signs of a path toward reconciliation between the two nations. This situation could potentially turn the oil trade into a global economic crisis.
