New Delhi: Ever since the Trinamool Congress (TMC) faced defeat against the BJP in the West Bengal Assembly elections, former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has suffered a series of setbacks. Even her close associates are deserting her; while some have joined the BJP, numerous MLAs and MPs have rebelled and formed a separate faction.
Amidst this, Mamata Banerjee has suffered another major blow. Ritabrata Banerjee, a rebel TMC MLA who is now acting as the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal House, has appointed district presidents for his faction. He has appointed former TMC leader Anubrata Mondal as the president for Birbhum. Anubrata Mondal is a prominent figure in state politics and is known to be a close associate of Mamata Banerjee.

Major Announcement by the Rebel TMC Faction
Ritabrata Banerjee, the Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal and an MLA from the rebel TMC faction, announced the appointment of district presidents for his group on Saturday. He appointed former TMC leader Anubrata Mondal as the president of Birbhum district. Mondal is considered a heavyweight in West Bengal politics.
He is also known to be close to Mamata Banerjee and is counted among the influential leaders of Birbhum. The faction that broke away from Mamata Banerjee’s party first formally inducted him and subsequently handed him the reins as district president. This is being viewed as a significant setback for the TMC and Mamata Banerjee. Ritabrata informed the media that he had appointed district presidents for several districts.

Responsibility was assigned to Prasun Banerjee as Well.
The rebel TMC faction appointed Prasun Banerjee as the president of Malda district. Debashish Kumar was appointed president for the South Kolkata district, Sandipan Saha for the UP district, and Anubrata Mondal for the Birbhum district. There had been some speculation regarding Mondal switching sides. Ritabrata Banerjee also announced the district leadership during this process. Earlier, Ritabrata had also announced the formation of a leadership structure for the AITC committee, with Arup Roy appointed as the chairperson.
Formation of the Working Committee
It is worth noting that Ritabrata Banerjee has also constituted a 30-member national working committee. He reiterated that Mamata Banerjee plays the role of a guiding force within the TMC. The 30-member committee includes names such as Firhad Hakim, Arup Biswas, Rathin Ghosh, Sabina Yasmin, Javed Khan, and Sandipan Saha.
Meanwhile, the TMC had suffered a major setback when three of its Rajya Sabha MPs, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Sushmita Dev, and Prakash Chik Baraik, joined the BJP.
