Rajya Sabha Election

New Delhi: West Bengal’s political landscape is currently witnessing significant turbulence. Political temperatures in the state have remained high ever since the assembly elections. Meanwhile, election dates have been announced for three vacant Rajya Sabha seats in the state. Voting to fill these three seats, which the BJP is eyeing, ng will take place on July 24, 2026.

The BJP will strive to ensure victory for its candidates on all three seats at any cost. The results will be known through vote counting at 5 PM on July 24 itself. Another political storm could erupt between the TMC and the BJP in the state. The Election Commission will issue the official notification for this election on July 7.

Election following three resignations

These seats fell vacant following the recent resignations of three senior members,s Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Sushmita Dev, and Prakash Chik B, ai after the West Bengal assembly elections. Voting to fill these vacancies will be held on July 24, running from 9 AM to 4 PM.

Vote counting will take place one hour later, at 5 PM, on the same day. Separate notifications will be issued for each seat, and voting will be conducted independently for each. Special observers will also be deployed to oversee the electoral process. These by-elections are considered crucial in the context of Bengal’s political dynamics.

BJP eyeing all three seats

Three Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MPs had resigned from their posts. It is now anticipated that the BJP might field these three former MPs as its candidates. Given the number of BJP MLAs, all three of its candidates could easily secure victory; there appears to be no likelihood of any defection among BJP MLAs.

Full schedule for the Rajya Sabha election

It is worth noting that the Monsoon Session of Parliament is set to begin on July 20. During this session, the central government may consider passing certain bills that require a two-thirds majority in both Houses. The Election Commission has also released the full schedule for the election.

The notification for the election will be issued on July 7. July 14 will be the last date for filing nominations, with the scrutiny of nominations taking place on July 15. Two days later, on July 17, the deadline for the withdrawal of candidatures falls. Voting will be held on July 24; polling will continue from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and the vote counting will begin at 5:00 PM.

BJP to Strengthen its Position in Rajya Sabha

It is considered a certainty that BJP candidates will win all three Rajya Sabha seats from West Bengal. This victory will further strengthen the BJP’s position in the Rajya Sabha. Meanwhile, the question of who the Trinamool Congress will field as its candidate remains unresolved. The BJP is expected to announce its candidates soon.
