Satwik-Chirag China Open 2025 run ends in the semifinals as the Indian pair falls to Malaysia’s Chia-Soh in straight games. India’s challenge concludes in Changzhou.

At the China Open 2025 Badminton tournament, Malaysian shuttlers Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik defeated the Indian men’s badminton team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. Today, Malaysia’s Chia-Soh were unstoppable and won 13-21 and 17-21 straight games.

India’s chances of winning a championship have ended with Satwik-Chirag’s exclusion from the Semifinal match. India’s shuttler duo enjoyed a slim three-point lead at the beginning of the first game, but Chia-Soh exploited their unforced mistakes to win.

Satwik-Chirag’s poise is overshadowed by the Malaysian duo’s intense game.

From the very first game, the men’s badminton team from Malaysia, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, was on the attack. Chia-Soh rallied and scored 6-9 at one point, despite India’s Satwik Chirag having a 3-0 lead early in the match.

Following that advantage, the Malaysian pair put on a strong defensive show while continuing to take advantage of Satwik-Chirag’s errors. They won the first game 13–21 as the lead continued to grow.

Even though the Indian team had a 2-1 lead at the beginning of the second game, the Malaysian team rallied with a 2-3 later. At one point in the second game, the score was as close as 15-26, but Chia-Soh’s defensive effort kept the game at 17-21.

Satwik-Chirag’s match against Japan’s Kenya Mitsuhashi and Hiroki Okamura kicked off the China Open in Changzhou. After defeating the Japanese pair 21-13, 21-9, the Indian pair advanced to the round of 16. They then defeated Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana to guarantee their spot in the China Open Super 1000 badminton event quarterfinals.

Satwik-Chirag defeated Yew Sin Ong and Ee Yi Teo of Malaysia in straight games in the quarterfinals, 21-18, 21-14. However, they did not advance to the third round after losing to Chia-Soh in straight sets in the semifinal.

Satwik-Chirag is dominated by the Malaysian pair in the head-to-head record.

In their last three meetings, India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty and Malaysia’s Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik have swept the competition whenever they face off. Thus far, this Malaysian-Indian pair has faced off four times, with Satwik-Chirag winning just one match at the Indian Open 2024.

Chia-Soh then returned at the 2025 Singapore Open and the 2025 Paris Olympics. The Indian pair has now once again missed out on a spot in the BWF Finals in their most recent matchup at the China Open 2025.
