128-year-old yoga guru Shivanand Baba was a resident of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. He was admitted to BHU for the last three days due to breathing problems where he breathed his last. Baba’s life was dedicated to yoga. For his last darshan, his body has been kept at his Durga Kund Ashram where he will be cremated. Baba followed celibacy throughout his life and served the poor and taught yoga to people. His death is an irreparable loss. His last rites will be performed on Monday.

128 year old Yoga Guru Shivanand Baba passed away on Saturday night at 8:45 pm, he was admitted in BHU for the last three days, he was admitted to the hospital due to difficulty in breathing, Baba lived a very simple life and followed celibacy his whole life, he also ate only simple and boiled food, due to which he could live a healthy life for so many years.
He was awarded Padma Shri in 2022

Yoga Guru Shivanand was awarded Padma Shri on 21 March 2022, Baba’s simplicity is evident from the fact that he went barefoot to receive this honor where he bowed down and greeted the President and Prime Minister Modi, in return Prime Minister Modi also bowed down and accepted his greeting. He was the oldest person to be awarded Padma Shri, who received this honor.

After the death of Yoga Guru Shivanand Baba, PM Modi has expressed condolences on his death and posted a post on social media, in which he wrote that “I am deeply saddened by the death of yoga practitioner and Kashi resident Shivanand Baba ji. His life dedicated to yoga and sadhana will continue to inspire every generation of the country. He was also honored with Padma Shri for serving the society through yoga. Shivanand Baba’s departure to Shivalok is an irreparable loss for all of us Kashi residents and crores of people who took inspiration from him. I pay tribute to him in this hour of grief.”

The last rites may be performed on Monday
The last rites of Yoga Guru Shivanand can be performed on Monday, after his death his body has been taken to his ashram in Durgakund, his ashram is located in Kabir Nagar of Durga Kund in Bhelpuri, Varanasi, his last rites will now be performed at Harishchandra Ghat in Varanasi.

Yoga Guru Shivanand was born on 8 August 1986 in Sylhet district of Bengal Presidency British India, his family was very poor, his parents used to live by begging, when he was 6 years old, his parents and sister died due to poverty, after this he went to Kashi under the guidance of Guru Omkarananda and there he took proficiency and training in yoga from him, after this he started serving the people by staying there. His life was very disciplined and he made yoga and meditation his life and followed celibacy throughout his life.
He served the poor for many years and fed the needy, he made complete arrangements for food and livelihood of 600 beggars suffering from leprosy, he gave a healthy life for so many years, the reason for which is said to be regular yoga. He used to wake up every morning at 3:00 am and do yoga, after this he used to serve people, his food was also very simple, he used to eat only boiled food and used to sleep on a mat spread on the floor, he has also received many awards for helping people, which include Yoga Ratna Award, Vasundhara Ratna Award and Padmashree Award.
