IPS Damayanti Sen : One name that is constantly in the news in the political circles of West Bengal is that of IPS officer Damayanti Sen. She was sidelined by the Mamata Banerjee government during her tenure. However, she has now become Suvendu Adhikari’s most trusted officer and has been in the news ever since he appointed her as the Member Secretary of the Women’s Atrocity Investigation Commission.
Following the change of power in Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari assumed the Chief Minister’s reins and entrusted this important post to the dynamic female police officer, Damayanti Sen, who is known for her honesty and dedication.
Who is IPS Damayanti Sen?

Damayanti Sen was born in 1970. Although she hasn’t shared any specific details about her family, she is a single mother and has never married, having adopted a child. She attended Jadavpur University, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics. She is a 1996 batch IPS officer of the West Bengal cadre, currently serving as Additional Director General of Police. She is known as a brave and honest officer.
Park Street gang rape case

IPS Damayanti Sen rose to prominence after leading the investigation into the Park Street gang rape case. When four girls were raped in Bengal, she launched a campaign against the Mamata Banerjee government. At the time, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee described the incident as a sajano ghotona (fabricated incident) that tarnished the government’s image.
However, Sen, using her abilities, proved that the Park Street rape was not a hoax and that the four girls had indeed been raped. Following this, Mamata Banerjee transferred Sen from Kolkata Police Headquarters, Lalbazar, to the Commissionerate, and the Mamata government sidelined her.
Suvendu Adhikari has given a new post to IPS Damayanti Sen

After assuming the important post of Chief Minister of West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari has made many important changes to fulfill his election promises and has formed two major commissions to investigate institutional corruption and atrocities against women.
This committee will be headed by Justice Vishwajit, a retired judge of the Kolkata High Court and Jayaraman, a senior ADG rank officer of the IPS, will be the member secretary of this committee and the second committee will be headed by retired judge Sampati Chatterjee and Damayanti Jain has been made its member secretary. This committee will start its work from June 1, 2026 and will conduct an impartial investigation into the crimes against women that have taken place in West Bengal in the last few years.
