Kisan Credit Card

New Delhi: The Kisan Credit Card (KCC) is an excellent scheme that is proving to be a boon for farmers. A large number of people are availing the benefits of this scheme run by the Government of India, which is truly impressive. The Central Government’s Kisan Credit Card scheme is operating successfully with the aim of providing timely credit at affordable interest rates to Indian farmers for agriculture and related needs.

The scheme aims to protect farmers from the debt traps of moneylenders charging exorbitant interest rates and to integrate them into the formal banking system. Initially, the scope of the KCC was primarily limited to covering seasonal crop cultivation expenses. It has now been expanded to include allied activities such as animal husbandry, dairy farming, fisheries, poultry, and beekeeping. You can find detailed information below regarding eligibility, required documents, and the application process.

Find out who is eligible for the Kisan Credit Card

The eligibility criteria for availing the benefits of the Kisan Credit Card scheme have been made quite simple. Eligible individuals include farmers who own land, as well as those who cultivate land either individually or jointly. Additionally, sharecroppers, tenant farmers, and lessees are also eligible.

Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) are also eligible, as are farmers involved in animal husbandry, dairy farming, poultry farming, shrimp farming, and fisheries. The standard interest rate on the Kisan Credit Card is 7 per cent. However, the government offers an additional 3 per cent rebate to farmers who repay their loans on time.

This brings the effective interest rate down to just 4 per cent per annum. Loans of up to ₹2 lakh can be easily obtained without pledging any land or assets as collateral. The KCC functions like a credit card, offering a fixed credit limit; farmers can withdraw and deposit money according to their requirements. Find out which documents are required.d
