UPPSC
The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) is all set to conduct its largest recruitment examination of the year the Review Officer (RO) and Assistant Review Officer (ARO) Preliminary Examination 2024 on 27th July 2024. With over 10 lakh candidates expected to appear, this exam is being called one of the most significant and competitive exams conducted by UPPSC.
What sets this year’s examination apart is not just the scale but also the strict legal measures introduced to curb cheating and paper leaks. Under the Uttar Pradesh Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2023, candidates found guilty of using unfair means could face life imprisonment and a fine of up to ₹1 crore. These unprecedented punishments are aimed at ensuring the sanctity of the examination process and maintaining a level playing field for all aspirants.

What is the UPPSC RO/ARO Exam?
The UPPSC RO/ARO exam is held to recruit candidates for various administrative and clerical posts in the state government departments. These include key responsibilities like drafting official letters, analyzing records, and managing documentation in various state offices. The exam is conducted in three stages Preliminary, Mains, and Typing Test with candidates needing to qualify in each stage to move forward.
This year, UPPSC has released 411 vacancies for the posts of RO and ARO, and the sheer number of applicants has made it a highly competitive exam. The Preliminary exam will be conducted in two shifts across multiple centers in the state. To ensure transparency and fairness, extensive security measures are being implemented, including the use of AI-based surveillance systems and biometric verification at exam centers.

Strict Action Against Cheating
The recent instances of paper leaks and cheating scandals in various states have prompted authorities to take a tough stance. Uttar Pradesh has taken the lead with its new anti-cheating law, under which offenders whether students, middlemen, or officials can be penalized with life imprisonment and a fine up to ₹1 crore. The law also empowers authorities to seize properties and bank accounts of those involved in such activities.
To further tighten security, mobile jammers, CCTV cameras, and digital frisking methods will be used at all examination venues. Special task forces will also be deployed to monitor suspicious activities before and during the exam.
Important Instructions for Candidates
Candidates are advised to download their admit cards well in advance and reach their exam centers on time. Carrying prohibited items like mobile phones, smart watches, and calculators can lead to disqualification. Identity verification will be done strictly, and any mismatches may result in cancellation of candidature.
The UPPSC RO/ARO exam is not just a career defining opportunity for lakhs of candidates, but also a test of the state’s resolve to ensure transparency in public recruitment. With stringent laws in place, the message is clear cheating will not be tolerated, and merit will be rewarded.
