Toyota
Toyota is making headlines again with its internationally acclaimed SUV, the Toyota RAV4, now rumored to be heading for an official launch in India. With global recognition for performance, comfort, and efficiency, the RAV4 has caught the attention of Indian auto enthusiasts thanks to its stunning fuel efficiency of up to 39 kmpl a figure rarely seen in the SUV segment.

A Hybrid Game-Changer
What makes the Toyota RAV4 stand out is its hybrid powertrain. In international markets, the SUV comes equipped with a 2.5-liter petrol engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of around 218 hp in the front-wheel drive variant and up to 222 hp in the all-wheel drive version. This self-charging hybrid system is key to its outstanding mileage figures, making it an ideal vehicle for Indian roads where fuel prices continue to rise.
The record 39 kmpl mileage, achieved under controlled test conditions, places the RAV4 among the most fuel-efficient SUVs globally. While real-world mileage in India may vary depending on traffic and road conditions, the RAV4 is expected to deliver around 22–25 kmpl, which is still far ahead of most of its rivals in the compact SUV segment.
Expected Pricing in India

While Toyota India has not yet officially launched the RAV4, there is strong speculation that it will enter the Indian market via the CBU (Completely Built-Up Unit) route initially, which may place its pricing on the higher end. If imported as a CBU, the Toyota RAV4 price in India could range between ₹55 lakh to ₹60 lakh (ex-showroom).
However, if Toyota decides to localize production or bring it in via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route later, the price could drop significantly, making it more competitive against premium SUVs like the Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Compass, and Citroën C5 Aircross.
Features & Design
The RAV4 offers a modern and aggressive exterior design, featuring sharp LED headlights, a bold front grille, and muscular wheel arches. Inside, it’s packed with premium features such as:
- A 7-inch or 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
- Toyota Safety Sense with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking
- Dual-zone climate control
- Power-adjustable and heated seats
- Panoramic sunroof (on higher trims)
Its spacious cabin and large boot capacity make it ideal for families and long-distance travel.
Toyota’s RAV4 is a strong contender for the Indian SUV market, especially as hybrid technology gains popularity. With unmatched mileage of up to 39 kmpl, a premium design, and Toyota’s global reputation for reliability, the RAV4 could become a preferred choice for eco-conscious and performance oriented Indian buyers.
While pricing will be a key factor, the arrival of the RAV4 could signal a major shift toward hybrid SUVs in India, especially as the country moves toward cleaner mobility solutions.
