New Delhi: A tense situation has prevailed in the capital since this morning due to a protest by the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP). The Delhi Police have detained several individuals, including CJP founder Abhijit Deepke. According to reports, approximately 2,000 protesters have been detained so far. A major question remains: will the protesters who took to the streets without Delhi Police permission be able to reach Jantar Mantar?
Meanwhile, social activist and educationist Sonam Wangchuk, who is observing a fast at Jantar Mantar against the NEET exam paper leak, has issued a significant statement that serves as nothing less than a warning to the government. He made a startling statement, strongly condemning the heavy security cordon and the preventive detention of people in Delhi.

What did Sonam Wangchuk say?
Educationist and social activist Sonam Wangchuk made a strong statement regarding the detention of students in Delhi. He remarked that the world’s largest democracy is operating under conditions resembling an undeclared emergency. He shared these views on social media following the police’s harsh crackdown during the major protest led by the youth-led ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ at Jantar Mantar.
In a video posted on the social media platform X, he expressed deep anguish over the detention of leaders, activists, and peaceful protesters who were on their way to Delhi. In the video message, Wangchuk said, “When I posted a message appealing for unity and peace regarding today’s protest, I never imagined that the world’s largest democracy would be going through a phase of undeclared emergency.”
Protesters must be released immediately: Wangchuk.
Sonam Wangchuk has demanded the immediate release of all the detained protesters. He warned the government that if the administration persisted with harsh measures, he would be compelled to launch a new hunger strike or a padyatra (foot march). While extending his full support to the CJP’s protest at Jantar Mantar, Wangchuk clarified that he would not personally participate in the demonstration in Delhi this time.

Additionally, upon returning to Ladakh, he mentioned that he is focusing on essential environmental conservation work specifically, creating artificial glaciers and addressing the risks posed by Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs). Quoting famous lines by the poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz, he said, “There are other sorrows in the world besides politics.
For context, the founder of the Cockroach Janata Party was arriving in Delhi by flight with his associates, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das. As soon as the aircraft landed at Delhi Airport, the police detained them. The Delhi Police took the three leaders to separate locations.
