New Delhi: If you are planning to drive in Delhi today, please read the traffic advisory first to avoid potential inconvenience. It is important to be aware of certain details before heading out. The 18th BRICS Summit is scheduled to take place at Bharat Mandapam in the capital, Delhi, on September 12 and 13, 2026. Extensive preparations have been made by the Ministry of External Affairs and Delhi Police ahead of this high-profile event.
As part of these preparations, a mock drill for VIP convoys will be conducted on Wednesday (September 2, 2026). The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory to assist commuters; the rehearsal is scheduled to take place between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
Traffic in Lutyens’ Delhi and surrounding areas is expected to be affected during this period. The Traffic Police stated that 22 diversion points have been set up, and vehicular movement will be regulated on more than 35 roads.
Which roads will be affected?
According to the Delhi Traffic Police, traffic will be completely restricted on September 2 on roads such as Sardar Patel Marg, Shanti Path, Akbar Road, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Mathura Road, Teen Murti Marg, Motilal Nehru Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Africa Avenue, and Press Enclave Road. Additionally, traffic will be diverted at key junctions and points such as the RML Hospital roundabout, Dhaula Kuan flyover, Moti Bagh flyover, Patel Chowk, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, and Mandi House.
Important information for reaching railway stations and the airport
The Traffic Police have advised commuters to leave home early and use alternative routes. Specific routes have been suggested for travellers heading to New Delhi, Old Delhi, and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations. Travellers heading to IGI Airport are advised to use the Delhi Metro instead of road transport.
A bypass corridor has been designated for motorists arriving from Gurugram, Dwarka, and South, West, North, and East Delhi. Priority will be given to emergency services, and Metro services will continue to operate normally during the rehearsal. There may be temporary changes to DTC bus routes. Parking of vehicles will be completely prohibited within a 200-meter radius of these roads.
Please note that ambulances and other emergency vehicles will be allowed passage without obstruction. Restrictions will be in place regarding the entry of commercial and heavy vehicles from outside into Delhi. The traffic police have appealed to citizens to follow the instructions of the police personnel deployed on the roads.
