New Delhi: Several protesters were injured in a lathi-charge by the Delhi Police during a march to Parliament organised by the CJP (Cockroach Janata Party); they have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. The protesters were demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET exam leak issue. A CJP delegation had met Union Minister JP Nadda but received no concrete assurances.
The Congress party has now also entered the fray. Adopting a cautious approach, the Congress party staged a protest by surrounding the Prime Minister’s residence to oppose the lathi-charge against the students. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi sat in protest. They were accompanied by party national president Mallikarjun Kharge, Pawan Khera, and other leaders. Anti-government slogans were raised during the event.
Rahul Gandhi alleges brutality against students
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has accused the police of brutality against the protesting students. Taking to the social media platform X, he stated that they were marching to PM Narendra Modi’s residence to demand answers from him.
He alleged that the government had subjected students to brutality just a day earlier but was unwilling to take responsibility or allow a parliamentary discussion on the issue. In his post, the Raebareli MP said, “We are marching to PM Narendra Modi’s house to demand answers regarding the brutality inflicted upon students yesterday.”
He stated that the government wants neither accountability nor a debate. He asserted that the PM and the Defence Minister should resign for ruining the future of the country’s youth. Additionally, the Congress has demanded an impartial inquiry into the action taken against the students during the protest, accusing the government of suppressing the voice of the youth. There has been no immediate official response from the government regarding this protest.
Sonam Wangchuk to be shifted to another hospital
The Delhi High Court has issued a significant order regarding social activist Sonam Wangchuk. The court has directed that he be shifted from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta Hospital. An order has been issued for Wangchuk to undergo treatment at a private hospital, following a petition filed by his wife, Geetanjali. A two-judge bench issued this order. According to the court, a special panel of doctors will be constituted at Medanta Hospital, and a team of specialists will be formed for Wangchuk’s treatment.
It is worth noting that educationist Sonam Wangchuk has been on a hunger strike for 24 consecutive days. He was forcibly removed from Jantar Mantar and admitted to Safdarjung Hospital. He had laid down certain conditions for ending his hunger strike, stating that he would call it off if Members of Parliament assured him that the NEET paper leak issue would be discussed in Parliament and accountability would be fixed.
