Thousands of students marched to lay siege to Parliament, but the situation escalated when the police resorted to a lathi-charge. Several students sustained injuries during the police lathi-charge, while some police personnel were hurt by stone-pelting.
Some young protesters managed to reach Parliament but could not enter due to police barricades. It was expected that the protest at Jantar Mantar would conclude after Monday’s march, but CJP members remain dug in at the site. According to the latest reports, CJP protesters are still holding their ground at Jantar Mantar as of 5:30 AM, although their numbers are reported to be quite low.
Protesters Hold Ground at Jantar Mantar
CJP protesters have once again occupied Jantar Mantar. When the protest turned volatile at 4 PM yesterday, authorities had begun clearing the sit-in, removing all protesters from the site.
According to the latest update, CJP protesters remain firmly in place as of 5:30 AM. The number of protesters is currently around 100, and a stage has been set up again. It now appears that the CJP’s agitation may continue.
Police Presence Increased at Jantar Mantar
Protesters remain at Jantar Mantar despite the earlier lathi-charge that occurred during the police action. A stage has been set up once more. As a precautionary measure, the Delhi administration has now deployed paramilitary forces at the site. Meanwhile, students continue to arrive at the protest venue. Delhi Police Holds Meetings
The Delhi Police held meetings on Monday to review the law-and-order situation following clashes between protesters and security personnel during a ‘Parliament March’ organised by the ‘Cockroach Janaka Party’. A meeting was held in the morning to discuss security arrangements before the protest; this involved detailed deliberations on strategic locations, personnel deployment, and measures to handle any potential situation.
According to sources, another high-level meeting took place at the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) to assess the situation and review the investigation into the clashes. Sources indicated that senior police officers participated in the meeting to review the law-and-order situation and discuss the inquiry into the violence.
The police will now keep a close watch on the protesters to ensure the situation remains under control. The ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) has announced the end of its indefinite hunger strike; however, the re-erection of tents and a stage at Jantar Mantar suggests that the CJP might be preparing to take a major decision.
