New Delhi: While the agitation against the NEET paper leak has just concluded, the central government is now facing fresh challenges. The government may once again have to face public ire on the streets of Delhi regarding E20 fuel. The Delhi Police has halted a proposed march intended to submit a memorandum to PM Narendra Modi against E20 fuel.
As soon as the foot march was stopped, former CM Arvind Kejriwal sat on a protest (dharna) on Ferozeshah Road. A large police force has been deployed. Before the march, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had made a startling statement.
Before heading to the PM’s residence, Kejriwal stated that ethanol is being imposed on the country’s people under pressure from Trump. He expressed hope that they would not be stopped, adding that 200,000 copies [of petitions] would certainly be taken to the PM’s residence. “Let’s see where they stop us. I hope they won’t,” he said.
Kejriwal Stopped at Feroz Shah Road
Former CM Arvind Kejriwal was stopped by the Delhi Police on Feroz Shah Road during the foot march. Kejriwal had set out for the PM’s residence accompanied by party workers and supporters. Following the halt, he sat on a protest right on the road alongside AAP workers and hundreds of others.
Traffic congestion has ensued. A large police force has been deployed to maintain control of the situation. Former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and several senior AAP leaders are also participating in the march alongside Kejriwal.
The Issue Behind the March to the PM’s Residence
AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal had planned to visit the PM’s residence regarding the E20 fuel issue. Earlier, he stated in a video that they were heading to the PM’s residence with 233,238 petitions to hand over to the Prime Minister. He mentioned that they were accompanied by 100 individuals whose vehicles had been damaged by E20 fuel, expressing hope that the Prime Minister would listen to the voice of the people. A large number of party workers had gathered at the office.
For context, Aam Aadmi Party workers had assembled at the party office to protest against the E20 policy. These workers were carrying a petition addressed to the Prime Minister, bearing signatures. Before commencing the march, Arvind Kejriwal levelled allegations against the central government.
He stated that he had sought an appointment to meet the Prime Minister but had received no response so far. He further added that he would now personally visit the Prime Minister’s residence to submit the petition and letter prepared on behalf of the people, and would seek to discuss the matter.
