Jantar Mantar Protest

New Delhi: Delhi Police has removed social activist and educationist Sonam Wangchuk, who had been on a hunger strike for 20 days representing the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’, from Jantar Mantar and taken him directly to the hospital. The police took this decision in view of his deteriorating health, acting on High Court orders and medical advice.

He will now undergo medical check-ups at the hospital and receive medication as required. Abhijit Deepke, founder of the CJP, and leaders from other parties have expressed displeasure over this decision by the Delhi Police. They have also alleged that the police manhandled the protesters. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has appealed to the protesters to vacate the Jantar Mantar site.

Abhijit Deepke’s Major Claim

Abhijit Deepke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party, has made a significant claim. In a post, he stated that the Delhi Police is taking action at Jantar Mantar; people are being manhandled, and Sonam has been forcibly removed from the site.

Sonam Wangchuk Hospitalised

Due to his deteriorating health, Sonam Wangchuk has been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where he is currently undergoing treatment. He has been placed in the emergency ward. Doctors at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital had previously noted his poor health on July 13. A medical bulletin providing updates on his condition is expected to be released shortly.

Appeal to Vacate Jantar Mantar

The police have appealed to the protesters present at Jantar Mantar to vacate the site peacefully and as soon as possible; the implication is clear: if the protesters remain at Jantar Mantar, the police will take action.

Delhi Police Statement

According to New Delhi DCP Sachin Sharma, Sonam Wangchuk was admitted for treatment due to his deteriorating health while on the hunger strike, in accordance with High Court orders and medical advice. He is now under medical supervision.

Sanjay Singh Accuses Government of Hooliganism

Taking decisive action, the Delhi Police removed Sonam Wangchuk from Jantar Mantar and shifted him to a hospital, citing concerns for his health. Reacting to this, Aam Aadmi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh lashed out at the government in a post on X. He wrote, “What kind of hooliganism is this? Modi ji, this arrogance of power does not last forever. The very youth against whom you are wielding batons will be the one to topple your throne.

It is worth noting that political parties are now describing the government’s move to remove Sonam Wangchuk from Jantar Mantar as an act of arrogance.
