NPCI UPI Autopay Rules

NPCI UPI Autopay Rules: In response to complaints regarding autopay payments for online services, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced new rules that will give users control over auto debits. With these new rules, users will be able to view and manage all active autopay mandates by going to the Manage Bank Account section of the UPI app. These new rules will be implemented in January 2026. All banks and apps connected to the UPI network will implement this new rule by December 31, 2025. Until then, the old rules will remain in effect.

With the NPCI UPI Autopay Rules, users will now enjoy a secure and transparent payment system in the future. Often, users inadvertently authorize autopay when purchasing a subscription on an OTT platform or e-commerce website, but money continues to be debited from their account, leaving them unable to turn it off. Now, with this new rule, users will be able to manage the auto payment facility, which will provide control, security and transparency to the customer.

These rules will come into effect from January 1, 2026

The new NPCI UPI Autopay Rules, now related to NPCI’s Autopay debit, will come into effect from January 1, 2026. Let’s explore the benefits this new rule will provide to users.

  1. With this NPCI UPI Autopay Rules, the public will be able to view all active autopayments in the Manage Bank Account section of the UPI app. They no longer need to visit a separate app, but will be able to view all autopayments in one place.
  2. NPCI is also offering portability to customers. Just as users can port their mobile number from one company to another, they will now be able to transfer recurring mandates from one UPI app to another.
  3. Under this new rule, users will be able to view and manage all their autopayments, such as Netflix, EMIs, and insurance, all in one place within their UPI app. To achieve this, NPCI has launched the portal upihelp.npci.org.in.
  4. With this new rule, transactions will become more secure, as users will be required to enter their UPI PIN to make any changes, port, or cancel transactions.
  5. This new rule will maintain data privacy, and AutoPay will be used for display purposes only.
  6. With this new rule, users will be able to clearly view all payment-related information, including any subscription information they may have inadvertently purchased.
  7. Merchants can also easily change their payment provider or UPI ID, eliminating the need for customers to set up AutoPay again.
  8. These new rules will be implemented after December 31, 2025. Prior to this, old AutoPay payments will continue to function as before.
