Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has proposed to make ISI certified helmets mandatory, which has been supported by the Two Wheeler Helmet Manufacturers Association of India (THMA).

Union Road Minister Nitin Gadkari has made a new rule of providing ISI helmet on purchase of two wheeler and has said that now it will be mandatory for companies selling two wheeler vehicles to provide ISI certified helmet which has also been supported by Two Wheeler Helmet Manufacturer Association of India. After this step of the Union Road Minister, the number of deaths in accidents will now be reduced.

Every year many people die due to road accidents

This decision of Nitin Gadkari has been welcomed by all. Every year more than 1,80,000 people die in over 4,80,000 road accidents in our country in which most of the deceased are in the age group of 18 to 45 years and these incidents happen mainly due to two wheelers and most of the people who die in these are those who do not wear helmets. Now, after this effort of the government, the number of deaths due to not wearing helmets can be reduced.

Wearing ISI certified helmet will be compulsory

Nitin Gadkari has now made it compulsory for all two wheeler companies to have two ISI certified helmets, ISI certified helmets meet the safety standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards, safety helmets are certified by ISI only after checking its quality and safety, these are stronger than normal helmets and provide protection in case of an accident.

This decision of Nitin Gadkari has been supported by the Two Wheeler Helmet Manufacturers Association. Let us tell you that THMA had been demanding compulsory wearing of helmets for a long time, after which THMA has termed this step taken by Nitin Gadkari as safe and correct and said that a helmet can prove to be useful in saving lives because due to injuries people often die because of head injuries and wearing a helmet protects their head.

THMA also said that riding a two wheeler should be convenient for you and not risky and wearing a helmet should be compulsory for both the front and back seated people, by this you can protect yourself as well as your family.

How to know if the helmet is ISI certified

Nitin Gadkari has proposed a rule to make ISI certified helmets compulsory, ISI certified helmets are those helmets which meet the safety demands by the Bureau of Indian Standards. These helmets are certified by ISI after rigorous quality and safety tests. This helmet has the ISI symbol and a seven digit license number is written below it. Besides this, two wheeler driver’s helmet must also have IS 4151:2015 code.
