New Delhi: If you are worried about electricity bills, fret no more. The central government is running a scheme that can free you from electricity bills entirely. What’s more, your bill will remain zero even after using appliances like coolers, refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners. You might be surprised to hear this, but you have likely heard of the central government’s ‘PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana’ (PM Solar Home Free Electricity Scheme).

A major initiative has been launched under this scheme. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has introduced a special digital tool called ‘Get Solar in 60 Secs’ for this purpose. With the help of this interactive platform, citizens can easily understand the logistics of installing a solar system on their rooftops in just one minute, clearing up any confusion they might have.

Since the scheme’s inception, over 50 lakh (5 million) households have already become capable of generating their own electricity. This new digital tool will make the process of installing a solar system even easier.

Find out how the ‘Get Solar in 60 Secs’ tool works

The ‘Get Solar in 60 Secs’ tool is excellent and very easy to use. Users simply need to enter a few basic details.

You can easily enter your name and phone number, and select your state and district.

Then, using a slider, you need to input your electricity bill amount from the previous month and your sanctioned load.

The tool will then instantly provide a detailed breakdown tailored to your home, including the appropriate solar plant capacity, total installation cost, government subsidy, and details regarding bank loans and interest rates. Furthermore, the tool will show you the estimated lifetime savings you can expect.

Additionally, the platform offers direct contact with vendors via WhatsApp and features an AI chatbot named ‘SUNtosh’. It also displays a list of certified vendors registered under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. Users can easily initiate the solar installation process by contacting vendors directly via WhatsApp or phone calls. Additionally, the Central Government launched a WhatsApp-based AI chatbot named ‘SUNtosh’ on June 4, 2026. This chatbot provides users with real-time information regarding subsidies, the application process, and solutions to common issues directly via WhatsApp.

A scheme designed for cost savings

For context, PM Narendra Modi launched this scheme on February 29, 2024. The government aims to install solar panel systems on the rooftops of 10 million (1 crore) households and provide them with up to 300 units of free electricity per month. Achieving a rooftop solar capacity of 30 GW by the 2026-27 fiscal year will be required. Over its lifetime, the scheme is expected to generate 1,000 billion units of clean power and reduce CO2 emissions by 720 million tonnes.
