New Delhi: The monsoon is in full swing across most parts of the country, causing conditions to deteriorate significantly. Assam has witnessed devastating floods, forcing hundreds of thousands of people to leave their homes. The state has experienced unprecedented flooding, leading to a dire situation; according to reports, 80 people have lost their lives.
Hundreds of houses and shops have been submerged. North India is also facing the brunt of the rains, with rivers, drains, and ponds overflowing. Conditions in South India have also worsened due to the rainfall. Meanwhile, Delhi-NCR and Western UP have seen sunny skies since this morning, which may lead to a rise in temperatures.
Heavy Rain Warning for These States
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall is expected in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan until August 3. Additionally, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh may continue to experience heavy downpours until August 2. Red and orange alerts for rain have also been issued for Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh from July 31 to August 4. Heavy rain is also likely in the northeastern states between July 31 and August 3. The Meteorological Department indicates that the monsoon is likely to remain fully active during the first week of August.
Heavy Rain Alert for UP and Bihar
The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for the next 24 hours. There is a likelihood of the monsoon becoming active again in UP at the start of August. The IMD predicts rainfall in various areas, including Bhadohi, Deoria, Jaunpur, Kanpur Dehat, Kaushambi, Kushinagar, Raebareli, Sant Kabir Nagar, and Sitapur. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is expected in Bihar, accompanied by strong winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour.
Weather to Turn Unfavourable in Delhi-NCR
The IMD has forecast rain accompanied by thunderstorms in Delhi-NCR. Cloudy conditions are likely to persist across the capital and most parts of the NCR, with the possibility of light to moderate rainfall. Monsoon activity has been observed in the region over the past three days.
Rain Warning for Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh
According to the Meteorological Department, adverse weather conditions are expected to continue in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The IMD has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for Friday. Heavy rainfall is predicted at several locations across the Bageshwar, Nainital, Champawat, and Pithoragarh districts. Authorities have issued instructions to ensure robust precautionary measures are in place. Rain is also expected in various parts of Himachal Pradesh.
