- Rajma – 1 cup (soaked for 6 to 7 to 8 hours)
- Onion – 2 large finely chopped
- Tomato puree – 4 large tomatoes
- Green chillies – 2 finely chopped
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 tbsp
- Whole spices – Bay leaf, one big cardamom, one small cardamom, one cinnamon stick, cumin seeds (half tsp) nutmeg
- Ground spices – Turmeric powder, red chilli powder, cumin powder, garam masala, salt (according to taste)
- Oil or ghee – 3 to 4 tbsp
- Green coriander leaves – a little for garnishing
For rice
- 1 to 2 cups of basmati rice
- water – twice the amount of rice
How to make Rajma Chawal Recipe

To make Rajma Chawal Recipe, follow these step by step instructions :-
Step 1 – Boil the Rajma – To make Rajma Chawal, first put the Rajma in a pressure cooker and add salt, water, and a mixture of whole spices as per your taste. Cook it well on medium flame for 5 to 6 whistles until the Rajma becomes completely soft. Adding whole spices enhances the taste of Rajma.
Step 2 – Preparing the Masala – After boiling the Rajma, the second step is to prepare the Masala. For this, place a pan on the gas and add three to four teaspoons of oil or ghee. Now add half a teaspoon of cumin seeds and let them crackle. After this, add finely chopped ginger-garlic paste and onion and fry them till it turns golden. Then add green chili paste and tomato puree and cook it well. Add all the dry spices and cook it till the masala starts leaving the oil.
Step 3 – Prepare the gravy – When the masala is cooked, add water to it and cook it till it thickens. After this, add green coriander leaves on it for garnishing.
Prepare the rice – To prepare the rice, fill a pressure cooker with water, add the rice, and cook. Add half a teaspoon of ghee to the rice to keep it fluffy.
