If you hold an LPG connection, it is advisable to familiarise yourself with certain important details to avoid any inconvenience, as significant changes have been made to LPG regulations.
Indian gas companies have streamlined processes regarding LPG connection transfers, refill bookings, and switching to Piped Natural Gas (PNG). If you are an LPG consumer and are planning to change your residence or address, you need to be aware of the relevant rules.
Failure to comply with these rules could lead to the disconnection of your service. Officials have stated that specific procedures must be followed when moving house. If you wish to switch to PNG, you must have all necessary documentation ready and adhere to the prescribed regulations.
Steps to take when moving house
If you are planning to move, there are a few important points to consider. First, you must inform your gas agency and apply for a connection transfer. You may be required to submit documents such as an identity proof, proof of the new address, gas booking details, and the connection voucher.
Shifting within the same area
If you are moving to a location that falls under the service area of your current agency, you do not need to change your gas connection; simply updating your address will suffice. You can visit the agency and have the distributor update your details, ensuring uninterrupted LPG cylinder delivery.
However, if you move to an area served by a different gas agency, you must obtain a ‘Transfer Termination Voucher’ from your current agency. This document is essential for securing a connection with the new agency. To complete the transfer, you will need to submit the required personal documents along with the paperwork provided by your previous gas agency.
What to do if settling in a different city?
If you are moving to a different city, you must first return the LPG cylinder and regulator to your current gas agency. The agency will then issue a termination voucher, after which the security deposit can be refunded. A new connection will also be issued in the new city following verification by the new agency.
What is required when obtaining a PNG connection?
Over 13.4 lakh new PNG connections have been provided across the country in the last six months; the number of connections has risen rapidly following the government’s new guidelines. The government aims to provide a total of 60 lakh PNG connections. If a consumer holds both LPG and PNG connections, they must surrender the LPG connection; conversely, if they choose to retain the LPG connection, they must surrender the PNG connection.
