Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest car manufacturer, announced on Thursday that the “Made in India” Jimny 5-door model has now arrived in Japan. The SUV made its debut there, with the specially manufactured vehicle being unveiled at Maruti Suzuki’s Gurugram plant. According to PTI, the Jimny 5-door model has become the second SUV to be supplied to Suzuki Motor Corporation’s domestic market in the 2024-25 financial year, after the Fronx.
On Thursday, Maruti Suzuki India, the largest car manufacturer in the country, revealed that the “Made in India” Jimny 5-door model has arrived in Japan, marking its debut in the country. The SUV, which was specially manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Gurugram plant, was officially unveiled in Japan. According to a PTI report, the Jimny 5-door has become the second SUV to be exported to Suzuki Motor Corporation’s domestic market in the 2024-25 financial year, following the Fronx. This move highlights Maruti Suzuki’s growing presence in global markets and its ability to manufacture vehicles that cater to international demands. The Jimny, a popular off-roader, is expected to perform well in Japan, where it has a significant fan base. The company’s commitment to expanding its footprint internationally continues with this important step, as Maruti Suzuki strengthens its position as a key player in the global automobile industry.
Made in India Jimny’s Success in Multiple Countries
Takaouchi stated that after the success of the “Made in India” Jimny in markets like Mexico, Australia, and South Africa, they are confident it will also win over customers in Japan. The export of the Jimny affirms Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Maruti Suzuki exports four-wheel-drive models to nearly 100 countries. Suzuki Motor Corporation announced that it will launch the Jimny Nomad model in Japan on April 3. With over 50 years of legacy, the Jimny has sold over 3.5 million units across 199 countries and regions.
3-Door Jimny Already Available in Japan
The company also mentioned that the 3-door version of the Jimny is already available for sale in Japan. With India as the production hub for the 5-door Jimny, Suzuki aims to leverage Maruti Suzuki’s global production capabilities to meet the increasing demand for this iconic off-roader brand. Maruti Suzuki is India’s leading passenger vehicle exporter, having shipped over 3.23 lakh vehicles to 100 countries in 2024. The company accounted for 43.5% of the country’s total passenger vehicle exports in 2024.
