Kerala Cricket Coach Sexual Abuse Case: Cricket coach convicted of sexually assaulting student, sentenced to 35 years’ rigorous imprisonment; the court calls it abuse of trust.


A special fast-track court in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala, has sentenced 40-year-old cricket coach Manu M. to 35 years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹66,000 for sexually assaulting a female student. The court has already found him guilty in another similar Sexual Abuse, while the verdict in a third case is still pending.


The court clarified that the sentences awarded in the Sexual Abuse case will run consecutively, that is, after completion of one sentence, the other will be implemented. The prosecution argued before the court that the accused had gained the trust of the girl students in the name of providing cricket training and had misused that trust to commit sexual abuse.


According to the police, a total of six Sexual Abuse cases were registered against the accused, out of which the trial of four cases has been completed. This case was investigated by the Cantonment Police.
