Ingredients for making chaat masala:

  • 2 tablespoons cumin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon coriander seeds
  • 1 teaspoon celery seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1 to 2 dried red chilies
  • 1 tablespoon dry mango powder
  • 1 tablespoon black salt
  • 1 tablespoon salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry ginger powder
  • 1 pinch asafoetida (optional)

Full recipe for making chaat masala at home

First, take a heavy-bottomed pan and place it on low heat until hot. Once the pan is hot, add cumin seeds, coriander seeds, carom seeds, fennel seeds, black peppercorns, and dried red chilies and lightly fry them. Keep stirring occasionally to prevent them from burning.

Turn off the heat and transfer them to a plate and let them cool completely. Once the spices have cooled, put them in a mixer grinder and grind them finely. Once all the spices are finely ground, transfer the ground spices to a bowl. Add dry mango powder, black salt, common salt, and a little dry ginger powder and asafoetida, if desired. Asafoetida and ginger powder are optional. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly. Your homemade spicy chaat masala is ready. Store this prepared masala in a clean, dry, airtight container so you can use it whenever you want.

Use it on all things

This spice isn’t limited to chaat. You can sprinkle it on sliced ​​apples, guavas, cucumbers, tomatoes, and salads. Apart from this, it can also be used in Aloo Chaat, Dahi Bhalla, Bhelpuri, Papdi Chaat and Fruit Chaat.
