Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa sarma said on tuesday that a shoot-at-sight order has been issued in Dhubri disrict after communal tensions on june 13. the order will remain in force during the Durga Puja celebrations in the district. he also explained that people following sanatan dharma are a minority in Dhubri, and protecting them from extremists is a priority for the goverment. Himanta biswa sarma, made this statement while attending a program in Kokrajhar. he mentioned that there is currently no unrest or violence in dhubri but the strict order will continue during Durg Puja to prevent any disturbance. This year, the Durga puja festival will be celebrated from September 28 to october 2. he said that anyone trying to create the problems in the dhubri will face the serious consequnces for the act.

The Chief Minister had visited Dhubri on June 13 and announced that shoot-at-sight orders would be enforced at night in the district. he also explained that along the bangaldesh border a communal group was attempting to create trouble, which the government will not tolerate. ten days later, he visited the district again and informed that since june 13, more than 150 antisocial elements have been arrested, including 11 people from outside the state. Many of them already has pending cases against them. the government, he added, is determined to maintain peace and will take strict action aganst anyone disturbing harmony in the area. Reports says, a few people have been arrested who tried to create the disharmony in the society.
