Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has made a big announcement regarding Diwali celebrations. She said that the Delhi government will request the supreme court to allow the use of green crackers during the festival. The CM added that the government will present its request in writing before the court, explaining that green crackers are less harmful to the environment compared to regular ones. Permission for Green Crackers from Supreme Court
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that Diwali is the most important and sacred festival of Indian culture. Keeping in mind the emotions of millions of people living in Delhi, the government has decided to request the Hon’ble supreme court to allow the use of certified green crackers during the festival. She stated that Diwali holds deep cultural and traditional significance, and people should be able to celebrate it with joy while maintaining environmental balance. The chief minister also mentioned that green crackers are designed to produce less pollution and noise, making them a safer and more eco-friendly option. The Delhi government’s appeal aims to ensure that the festive spirit of Diwali continues without harming the city’s air quality of public health.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta clarified that all green crackers must be manufactured only by authorized institutions and certified by the competent and concerned departments. She reiterated the Delhi government’s strong commitment to controlling pollution and protecting the environment. The government has also assured the Hon’ble supreme court that it will fully cooperate in implementing and directions issued in the regard. The CM emphasized that environmental protection and public health remain top priorities even as efforts are made to allow safe celebrations during Diwali.
Earlier, the supreme court granted a major relief to certified firecrackers manufacturers by allowing the production of green crackers. However, this permission comes with a crucial condition-these crackers cannot be sold in Delhi-NCR without proper approval. The bench, headed by chief justice B.R. Gavai, also directed the central government to reconsider its decision to impose a complete ban on firecrackers manufacturing in the Delhi-NCR region, ensuring a balanced approach between tradition and environmental safety.
