News of significant relief is emerging for millions of laborers and workers across the country. Today, in this news, we will share information that is being seen as significant good news for laborers. The central government periodically revises the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) associated with the minimum wage, and now it has been revised once again. The primary objective of this periodic revision is to mitigate the impact of rising inflation and protect workers’ actual income, ensuring workers’ well-being. Keeping this in mind, VDA plays a crucial role in calculating minimum wages for designated centrally-held jobs, and this is why it has now been revised. It should be noted that the minimum wage increased on October 1st. The VDA revision has brought relief to workers following this decision.

According to government regulations, VDA is revised twice a year. This revision is generally effective on April 1st and October 1st. And in light of this, the VDA is determined based on changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI-IW) for industrial workers. This step has been taken for workers in light of rising inflation.

VDA is determined based on inflation.

VDA is determined based on inflation. Currently, inflation is rising day by day, whether it’s gas prices or food prices. Therefore, according to the Central Government, the VDA has been implemented to protect the minimum wage from the effects of inflation. According to the Ministry of Labor, there is a provision to revise the VDA every six months in the central sector. This directly impacts the earnings of workers employed in designated occupations under the jurisdiction of the Central Government. These include workers engaged in sectors such as construction, road and building construction or maintenance, loading and unloading, cleaning, janitorial work, mining, and agriculture. Wages are determined and increased based on the specific job and worker category.

Different rates have been increased for different categories of workers.

It should be noted that different allowances have been increased for different wages. Three lists have been created in government documents to determine the minimum wage, which fall into categories A, B, and C. Allowances are given accordingly.

Why is this change important?

In light of rising inflation, this is intended to help workers and improve the financial condition of their families. This will enable them to meet their food, rent, transportation, education, and daily needs.
