Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi, also called Vinayak Chaturthi, commemorates the birth of Lord Ganesha, the god of wisdom and wealth who removes barriers. Ganesh Chaturthi will be observed starting on August 27 this year. Installing elaborately constructed Ganesha idols in houses and public pandals decorated with flowers, lights, and sweets like modaks is part of the ten-day celebration, which is celebrated with great devotion, especially in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka. Prayers, aartis, and communal festivities are held during the festival, which ends with the Visarjan, in which idols are submerged in water.

The Ten-Day Ganesh Chaturthi Celebration

Ganesh Chaturthi marks the start of the festival, which lasts for ten colorful days full of rituals, prayers, devotional music, and cultural events. Idols of Lord Ganesha are submerged in rivers, lakes, or seas while chanting on the last day, Anant Chaturdashi.

In addition to installing statues of Lord Ganesha and performing daily aarti and bhajans, families, housing societies, and large public mandals also erect exquisitely painted pandals. Prasad is made and served with sweets like modak, ladoo, and karanji, which are thought to be Ganesha’s favorites.
