The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) conducted the highly anticipated Review Officer (RO) and Assistant Review Officer (ARO) Preliminary Examination today, across 2,382 centers in the state. This year, the exam drew record attention not only for the large number of candidates but also for the increased security and administrative arrangements.

In a first of its kind initiative, the state government appointed two magistrates at each exam center to ensure smooth and fair conduct of the examination. This decision reflects the growing concerns around exam related irregularities and the administration’s commitment to maintaining transparency and discipline.

Massive Participation and Tight Security

Over 6 lakh candidates had registered for the RO-ARO prelims, making it one of the largest state-level exams in recent months. With such high participation, authorities faced a major logistical challenge. Examination centers were set up across 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh, with special arrangements for crowd control, seating, and security.

Every examination center was equipped with CCTV surveillance, and strict protocols were followed to prevent cheating or paper leaks. For the first time, flying squads and local intelligence units worked in tandem with the exam invigilators to keep a close watch on suspicious activities. Candidates were subjected to thorough frisking at entry points and biometric attendance was recorded at selected centers.

Role of Magistrates at Centers

Deploying two magistrates per center is a strategic move aimed at enhancing administrative oversight. One magistrate oversaw the law and order situation outside the center, ensuring that no unauthorized person could create disturbance. The second magistrate remained inside the premises, coordinating with the center superintendent and inspecting rooms to ensure that the examination was conducted without any disruption.

According to officials, this dual deployment helped in faster issue resolution and better coordination among the invigilators, local police, and district administration. It also acted as a deterrent against malpractice, with candidates and center staff aware of stricter monitoring.

Smooth Execution and Public Response

Initial reports from various districts indicate that the examination went off smoothly and peacefully in most places. Candidates expressed satisfaction with the arrangements, especially the seating layout and availability of basic amenities like drinking water and toilets.

Parents and guardians who accompanied students to centers appreciated the security and discipline maintained. No major incidents of paper leak, impersonation, or violence were reported till late evening.

The 2025 UPPSC RO-ARO Preliminary Examination has set a new benchmark for state-level competitive exams in Uttar Pradesh. By deploying two magistrates at each of the 2,382 centers, the administration has sent a strong message about its zero-tolerance policy towards exam malpractice.

As the evaluation process begins, candidates now await the official answer keys and result dates. If the success of today’s exam is any indicator, the UPPSC appears well positioned to conduct its future recruitment drives with even more efficiency and credibility.
