The administration asked the farmers several times to move from the highway but they refused and started living there by putting up their tents and sheds, these farmers were sitting on dharna here for 13 months, after this Bhagwant Mann’s government came into action and called thousands of soldiers and evacuated it completely in which the farmers also cooperated and all the vehicles of the farmers have been kept safely at a place from where they can take their vehicles by showing their necessary documents.
Punjab Government had appealed to open the border
Punjab Government had appealed to the farmers to move away from Shambhu Border, let us tell you that the farmers had a meeting in Chandigarh with the representatives of the Punjab Government for the minimum support price of the crops, in which Union Ministers were also present, in this meeting the government appealed to the farmers to open the border and said that traffic is getting affected due to this protest but the farmers refused this, after this the government asked to open only one side of the highway, the farmers refused this demand also, after this the government took action and evacuated it forcibly.
When the farmers were returning after the meeting in Chandigarh, some farmers were arrested, including farmer leader Dallewal, who was taken into custody along with his ambulance and the rest of the people were also arrested along with their vehicles. Now the next meeting with the farmers will be held on May 4.
The demolition took place late on Thursday night
The demolition process at Shambhu Border and Khanauri Border began at around 7:30 pm, where many senior police officers along with army personnel arrived and started the process of evacuating the border. The hideouts of the protesters were removed by JCB, where they had set up their accommodation and food for their facilities, all this was removed. Internet services were shut down at that time, after which this process lasted for about two and a half hours and Shambhu Khanauri Border was almost completely cleaned up.
Traffic restored at Haryana Punjab Border
Traffic has now been restored at Shambhu Border. After this decision taken by the Punjab Government at Shambhu Border of Punjab Haryana, the farmers’ camps were removed from there, after which the border was completely vacated and the movement of vehicles has started from there. People have given a positive response to this, they said that due to the closure of the border, it used to take them more than 1 hour to travel a distance of 10 to 15 minutes, now this will also save their time, apart from this the farmers of Haryana have also thanked.
After JCB was used in Haryana-Punjab, now a large amount of force has been deployed on Shambhu border and many farmers have also been arrested. After this, the police force has been increased on the border of Haryana and Punjab and barricading has been done on the highway.
What was the reason for the farmers’ Protest
The reason for the farmers’ protest at Shambhu Border was the demand for minimum support price on crops, for which the farmers protested at Shambhu Border in February 2024 and asked the government to fulfill their demand. This protest was going on continuously for 13 months, due to which the traffic on the Haryana Punjab border was completely affected, due to which people were facing problems in commuting.
