Electric vehicle sales continue to grow rapidly in India, with electric passenger cars witnessing a particularly strong surge. According to data shared by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), electric passenger vehicle sales reached 26,682 units in May this year, marking an impressive 81.2% year-on-year increase. In comparison, only 14,725 electric passenger cars were sold during the same month last year. The sharp rise highlights the growing demand for EVs among Indian buyers, supported by improved charging infrastructure, new model launches, and increasing awareness of sustainable mobility. The latest figures show that electric cars are becoming an increasingly important part of the country’s automotive market.
Tata Motors Secured first position
According to Reports, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited remained the leader in India’s electric passenger vehicle market. The company sold 10,340 electric cars in May, more than double the 5,083 units sold during the same month last year, reflecting strong growth in demand for its EV lineup.
Mahindra & Mahindra
Mahindra & Mahindra secured the second position in India’s electric passenger vehicle market. The company sold 6,210 electric cars in May, recording a strong 114.8% year-on-year growth compared to 2,891 units sold in May last year. According to FADA, JSW MG Motor India ranked third on the list. The automaker sold 4,984 electric vehicles in May, showing steady growth from 4,599 units sold during the same month a year ago. The figures highlight the rising demand for electric vehicles and increasing competition among automakers in India’s fast-growing EV market.

TVS Motors
India’s electric two-wheeler market recorded strong growth in May, with total sales rising 62.76% year-on-year to 1,70,733 units. In comparison, 1,04,896 electric two-wheelers were sold in May last year. TVS Motor emerged as the top-selling electric two-wheeler brand during the month. The company sold 42,459 electric scooters and motorcycles in May, registering a 64.54% increase from 25,804 units sold in the same month last year. The strong performance reflects growing consumer interest in electric mobility, supported by expanding charging infrastructure, new product launches, and increasing demand for affordable and eco-friendly transportation options.
Bajaj Auto
According to the reports, Bajaj Auto ranked second among the top-selling electric two-wheeler brands in May. The company sold 39,202 electric vehicles, up significantly from 22,642 units sold in May last year. Ather Energy secured the third position, with sales reaching 28,240 units compared to 14,101 units in the same month last year, reflecting strong growth in the EV segment.
