New Delhi: Tremors shook China, India’s neighbour, as a 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck the southwestern Sichuan province on Wednesday morning, causing panic among the residents. People rushed out of their homes in haste. The earthquake measured 5.1 on the magnitude scale.
Its epicentre was in Gaoxian County, with a focal depth recorded at approximately 8 km below the surface. According to the China Earthquake Networks Centre, the quake struck at 6:12 AM. Chinese authorities immediately activated a Level-3 emergency response, and relief and rescue operations were launched.
According to a report, eight tremors were felt within a two-hour window between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM. The strongest tremor had a magnitude of 5.1. While there are no immediate reports of casualties or property damage, administrative teams have arrived in the affected areas to assess the situation.

Relief and Rescue Operations Underway
According to the China Earthquake Networks Centre, the tremors were felt at 6:12 AM. Chinese earthquake authorities immediately implemented a Level-3 emergency response and initiated relief and rescue operations. Seismologists reported that eight tremors were felt in the Gaoxian area between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM on Wednesday.
Two People Injured: According to the state-run news agency Xinhua, two people sustained minor injuries in the earthquake. They have been admitted to a local centre for treatment.
Teams Dispatched to Affected Areas
Following the tremors, the Sichuan Earthquake Agency dispatched a team of experts to the affected areas. Working alongside the local administration, they are assessing the situation and assisting with relief efforts. Wang Kun, head of the China Earthquake Administration, has instructed officials to continuously monitor seismic activity, assess risks, and provide regular updates on the situation. Tremors Felt in Several Areas
The ground in China shook for a prolonged period due to the earthquake. Social media users reported that the tremors were felt as far away as Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province. People rushed out of their homes and buildings when the tremors were suddenly felt.

The administration is currently monitoring the entire area. People have been urged to remain vigilant due to the possibility of aftershocks. According to initial reports, the situation is under control, though monitoring is ongoing.
