Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made an announcement for sanitation workers on Sunday morning. He said that if the central government provides land on subsidy, they will build homes for sanitation workers and give them ownership in easy installments. Since land in Delhi is under the central government, he has written a letter to PM Modi regarding this.
Kejriwal said that he hopes the Prime Minister will agree to this, as it concerns the welfare of the poor, and as the PM has mentioned, welfare schemes will continue in Delhi.
In the last two months, Kejriwal has made 8 announcements. Earlier, on January 18, he announced that if they win the election, they will provide free electricity and water to tenants living in Delhi.
Kejriwal wrote, “Prime Minister, I am writing this letter on behalf of sanitation workers in NDMC and MCD areas. These workers are the backbone of our city’s cleanliness system. They live in government-provided housing during their service, but after retirement, they have to vacate these homes.”
They are unable to buy their own homes or afford expensive rents in Delhi, leaving them and their families in an insecure situation. Since land-related matters in Delhi fall under the central government’s control, I request that the central government provide land at discounted rates for sanitation workers. The Delhi government will build homes for them on this land, and the workers will repay the cost of these homes in easy installments to the government.
This issue affects all government employees, especially those from the lower-income groups. Therefore, I request that this scheme be started for sanitation workers and then extended to all government employees. I am confident that you will agree with this proposal and take swift action to implement it.
