CNAP Feature : To stop spam calls coming on smartphones, DoT has ordered telecom operators to implement CNAP Feature. After the implementation of this feature, users will now get relief from unwanted spam calls and they will be able to see the phone number as well as its name on their mobile number without downloading any app, which will stop fraudulent calls.
DoT had already ordered to implement this feature but it has not been implemented yet, now DoT has again ordered telecom companies to implement it, after which big companies like Vodafone Idea and Jio Airtel have started preparing to implement CNAP Feature. At the same time, DoT has ordered telecom operators to complete the ongoing inter-operator trial as soon as possible, the testing of which is almost complete and now it will be implemented very soon.
Jio has developed the Snap technology and has also completed its testing, while Airtel and Vi are working with Nokia to develop the Snap technology. After this, this feature will be implemented by these telecom operators very soon.
The facility will be available on 4G and 5G networks

The facility of CNAP Feature will be available to 4G and 5G smartphone users, let us tell you that TRAI had recommended the implementation of CNAP Feature in February 2025, after which DOT had ordered all telecom operators to implement this new feature, now it will be implemented in a phased manner very soon.
What is CNAP Feature?

The full form of CNAP Feature is Caller Name Presentation, that is presenting the call coming on your mobile phone with its name. Now the name of the incoming call will be visible along with the number on your phone. The name with which the user will buy his SIM card will start showing on your screen in incoming calls.
Currently, for this feature, the user has to download a separate app like Truecaller but now after the introduction of this feature, they will not have to download any separate app. Along with the incoming call, they will be able to see the name of the caller on their mobile screen.
SIM card will be available only after biometric verification

To properly implement the CNAP feature, PMO has ordered the Department of Telecommunications to sell new SIM cards only after biometric verification, so that proper verification can be done while buying the SIM card and fraud cannot be committed. This rule will stop people who buy SIM cards in the wrong way and SIM cards can be sold in the right way, which will reduce cases of fraud.
