Chhath Puja 2025: Chhath Puja has started this year from 25 October 2025, i.e. today. This festival is celebrated every year from Chaturthi to Shashthi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. The holy festival of Chhath Puja lasts for four days and is celebrated with great joy. During Chhath Puja, the sixth goddess, i.e. Chhathi Maiya, is worshipped. This fast is mainly seen in the states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, in which Sun God and Shashthi Devi are worshipped. This fast is observed for children.

The four days of Chhath Puja 2025

The fast of Chhath Puja 2025, lasts for four days, and this year, it will run from October 25th to October 28th. Let’s find out what is done during these four days:-

  • First Day (Nahay Khay) – On the first day of Chhath Puja, the ritual of Nahay Khay is performed. On this day, women observing the fast take a bath, eat satvik food, and take a pledge to observe the fast. On this day, the house is thoroughly cleaned.
  • Second Day (Kharna) – The second day of Chhath Puja is called Kharna. On this day, all devotees observe a fast throughout the day, abstaining from food, and at night, they consume roti, kheer, and banana. After the second day, they observe a 36-hour waterless fast.
  • Third Day (Arghya to the Setting Sun) – On the third day of Chhath Puja, women offer water to the setting sun.
  • Fourth Day (Usha Ardhya) On the fourth day of Chhath fast, women offer Ardhya to the rising sun in the morning and only after this they take the Prasad of the fast and break the fast, after this the Chhath fast which lasts for four days is completed.

According to belief, during Chhath Puja, wishes are sought from the Lord by offering Ganga water to the Shivalinga, which Lord Shiva fulfils.   • During Chhath Puja 2025, devotees should pay special attention to the purity and cleanliness of their body and mind.
  • They should use only fresh ingredients for the puja.
  • Women should avoid consuming tamasic foods, meaning they should avoid garlic and onions, as well as alcohol and meat and fish.
  • Women should use rock salt instead of table salt when preparing food.
  • Women should avoid anger or jealousy towards others and should strive to maintain a calm mind.
  • The person observing the fast should not use a bed for resting but should sleep on the floor.
  • During this fast, the person observing the fast should first consume the Prasad and then distribute it to the other members.
  • Women who are menstruating should not touch the puja materials.
  • All the materials and Prasad should be kept in a half bamboo basket (soup) during Chhath Puja.
  • Leather items should not be used in the puja.
  • To start the puja, women should wake up early in the morning, take a bath and apply orange colored vermillion.
  • During the fast, women should offer milk and Prasad to Sun God and Chhathi Mata.
