Bank Closed: Banks To Remain Closed For 16 Days In October, Checklist

New Delhi: Today, October 2, 2026, Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary is being celebrated across the country. Mahatma Gandhi is being honoured in schools, business establishments, and the offices of political parties and social organisations. Consequently, a public holiday for banks has been declared nationwide. Meanwhile, the month of October is set to be significant in terms of bank holidays.

Banks will remain closed for 16 days this month; however, people need not face any inconvenience. It is advisable to check the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar to avoid making a wasted trip, as people often find themselves having to return empty-handed when banks are closed.

A Month Packed with Festivals

October is filled with festivals, resulting in 16 days of bank holidays. However, not all of these are national holidays; some closures are due to local events. The festival of Dussehra also falls in October, leading to a public bank holiday. The Reserve Bank of India has released an official list of holidays, which you can consult to clear up any doubts or questions you may have.

Find Out When Banks Will Remain Closed

According to the Reserve Bank of India’s calendar, today, October 2, is a national holiday marking Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. October 4 is a Sunday, which is a weekly holiday. October 10 is the second Saturday of the month, resulting in a bank holiday. October 11 is a Sunday, marking the weekly holiday.

Banks in Agartala will remain closed on Saturday, October 17. October 18 is a Sunday, designated as a weekly holiday. Additionally, on Monday, October 19, banks will be closed due to Maha Ashtami and Durga Puja. On Tuesday, October 20, there will be a holiday for Vijaya Dashami, or Dussehra. There will be a holiday for Dussehra on Wednesday, October 21. Banks in Gangtok will remain closed on Thursday, October 22.

Banks in Gangtok will also be closed on October 23. October 24 is the fourth Saturday of the month, so banks will be closed. October 25 is a Sunday, marking the weekly holiday. Banks will remain closed on October 26 due to Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti, Lakshmi Pujan, and Accession Day. There will be a holiday in some areas on October 29 due to Karva Chauth. Banks will remain closed on October 31 to mark Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti.

Online services will remain available.

Please note that bank branches will not be operational on these holidays. However, these holidays will not affect online banking services. Customers can easily carry out various essential transactions through digital channels such as ATMs, UPI, and net banking; the only limitation is that you will not be able to visit the bank branch in person to conduct business.
