New Delhi: Amidst questions raised regarding the transparency of the electoral process, various political parties and social organisations are currently demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Protests have already taken place across the country and are still ongoing. The main opposition party, the Congress, has announced a ‘mega-rally’ to be held at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan.

A large turnout from states across the country is expected at this rally, and the Delhi Police is already on high alert. Ahead of this opposition rally, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has levelled a serious allegation, claiming that the Union Home Minister is making every effort to prevent people from other states from reaching Delhi.

According to Rahul Gandhi, attempts are being made to stop Congress workers and ordinary citizens from travelling to Delhi from several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Telangana, and Punjab.

Rahul Gandhi levels allegations against the BJP

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi remarked that the number of people who manage to reach here and the number of those who are prevented from doing so will provide an insight into the current state of affairs in the country. He stated that there is immense anger and deep emotional distress among the people, as millions have been deprived of their right to vote.

Furthermore, he attacked the government over the alleged theft of votes, claiming that this theft is being carried out to benefit Adani, Ambani, Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and ‘God’ (a reference to the BJP’s political narrative). He added that these are not separate, isolated protests, but rather a single, unified movement. The entire opposition stands together, and they welcome anyone who wishes to join the protest.

Rahul Gandhi: A fight to protect the Constitution and our rights

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the central government and the Election Commission. He asserted that this struggle is about protecting the Constitution, the very idea of India, and the right to vote. The right to vote represents the voice of every Indian, and the opposition has united to safeguard this fundamental right. Rahul Gandhi stated that a similar event, originally scheduled for tomorrow, has been postponed.

Instead, a march will be held at Ramlila Ground on a subsequent day. He urged everyone to participate. Rahul Gandhi noted that both events are linked to the issue of the weakening of democracy, and those who wish to protest are welcome to join this march.
