New Delhi: Saharanpur became a focal point of discussion after a mosque located within the Collectorate complex was demolished by bulldozers following an order from the District Judge’s court. Police personnel have been deployed across the city to maintain peace. Rumours regarding the matter had spread rapidly overnight, accompanied by statements from MPs and councillors on social media.

To stabilise the situation, Iqra Hasan, the SP MP from Kairana, was placed under house arrest; police arrived and instructed her to remain at her residence. The court had ordered the demolition, deeming the mosque illegal, and the action was carried out under administrative supervision.

Police placed Iqra Hasan under house arrest.

The mosque was demolished in the presence of the police. During this process, SP MP Iqra Hasan was placed under house arrest. Vikas Tyagi, a former regional coordinator of the Bajrang Dal, had filed a complaint in March 2025, alleging that the mosque within the Collectorate complex was illegal. He also pointed out that the complex was being used for commercial purposes, which posed a security risk to the Collectorate premises.

The matter had been pending in the City Magistrate’s court for a year and a half. The mosque was declared illegal in July. Subsequently, the District Judge’s court upheld the City Magistrate’s order three days ago.

Action taken following the District Court’s decision

However, rumours that the mosque was being demolished had been circulating since Friday night. Several councillors and Congress MP Imran Masood took to social media to express their views in detail. Early Saturday morning, the demolition was carried out using six bulldozers. Anticipating potential untoward incidents, a heavy police force was deployed at various locations across the city.

SP MP Placed Under House Arrest

Kairana MP Iqra Hasan was on her way to the city amidst the ongoing issue regarding the mosque at the District Collectorate in Saharanpur. Meanwhile, police personnel from the Kairana police station arrived at her residence and placed her under house arrest. A large number of police personnel, including the Station House Officer (SHO), are present at her home. Iqra Hasan remains under house arrest. All eyes are now fixed on the statements from senior SP leaders.

It is worth noting that a decision was made to demolish the mosque in Saharanpur using a bulldozer, following an order by the District Judge. When the demolition team arrived, the police cordoned off the entire area and kept a close watch on everyone passing by. Thanks to the heavy deployment of security personnel, the mosque was demolished using the bulldozer while maintaining law and order.
