BYD’s First Electric Car
Reports suggest that BYD’s first hybrid electric car for the Indian market could be either the BYD Atto 2 DM-i or the BYD Sealion 6 PHEV. However, the company has not officially confirmed the model yet. The biggest highlight of these upcoming hybrid cars will be BYD’s advanced Dual Mode-Intelligent (DM-i) super plug-in hybrid technology. This new system is designed to deliver better driving range, strong power, and improved fuel efficiency compared to many other hybrid cars in the market. Along with smooth performance, the technology is also expected to provide a more comfortable and powerful driving experience for Indian customers.

Technology and Features
• BYD’s DM-i technology is based on an “electric-first” philosophy, which means the car mostly runs on battery power for better fuel savings and smoother driving.
• The system combines BYD’s famous Blade Battery, a powerful Xiaoyun petrol engine, and an intelligent hybrid setup with an electric motor and advanced electronics.
• When the battery charge becomes low, the petrol engine works like a generator and produces electricity to recharge the battery.
• At higher speeds, the petrol engine can directly power the wheels, while the electric motor supports performance when needed.
• This smart setup helps deliver better mileage, strong performance, and a much longer driving range.
Range and Other Highlights
Reports suggest that BYD’s first hybrid electric car in India could be the Sealion 6 PHEV, a premium midsize SUV packed with advanced technology. The SUV is expected to come with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated or turbo petrol engine paired with an electric motor and battery packs of up to 18.3 kWh or 26.6 kWh. This setup may produce power ranging from 218 bhp to 344 bhp, offering strong performance and smooth driving. The biggest highlight could be its impressive total driving range of up to 1092 km. In pure EV mode, the SUV may run between 128 km and 140 km.
