Hero MotoCorp to Double Scooter Production Capacity, Company to Invest ₹1,500 Crore

India’s largest two-wheeler company, Hero MotoCorp, is planning to aggressively expand its scooter business in the coming years. The company has announced an investment of ₹1,500 crore during the financial year 2026-27 to increase its scooter manufacturing capacity. Hero MotoCorp aims to double the production capacity of its popular scooter models to strengthen its position in the market. CEO Harshvardhan Chitale said the company is focusing on expanding production due to rising demand. At present, the company sells around 60,000 scooters every month and plans to increase this number to 1 lakh units in the future.

What CEO Harshvardhan Chitale Says?

Hero MotoCorp is rapidly expanding its scooter and electric vehicle business to meet rising customer demand in the Indian market. CEO Harshvardhan Chitale said the company has already increased the production capacity of its popular ICE scooter, Hero Destiny, by 50 percent. At the same time, work is underway to double the production capacity of the Hero XOOM scooter. The company is not only focusing on vehicle production but also strengthening its spare parts and accessories business to support long-term growth. As part of this plan, Hero MotoCorp will invest around ₹700 crore to establish a global parts hub in South India. The company is also preparing for a major expansion in its EV business. According to the CEO, the next phase of capacity expansion will soon be completed, which is expected to increase EV production capacity by nearly 50 percent compared to the previous quarter. After that, the company plans to double production capacity again over the next few quarters to meet future demand.

CEO Harshvardhan Chitale said that Hero MotoCorp has increased its EV production capacity from 15,000 units to 25,000 units and plans to double it again by the end of this year. Speaking about the impact of the ongoing West Asia conflict, he said market demand remained strong till April and the first week of May, with no major slowdown seen so far. However, he admitted that global uncertainties could affect future demand. He added that the two-wheeler industry had expected strong growth in FY 2026-27 before the war, but companies are now closely monitoring the situation.
