While travelling on highways, driver will no longer need to slow down or stop at toll plazas. There will be no long queues, no waiting and no waste of time. Taking a major step towards transforming India’s toll collection system, the country’s first multi-lane barrier-free toll plaza has been completed in Gujrat. This modern system allows the vehicles to pass smoothly without stoping, making highways travel faster and more convenient. The National highwats authority of India NHAI is set to begin a trial run of this advanced toll technology from 2 February. It successful, it could change the future of toll collection across the country.
First High-tech toll plaza installed in Gujarat
The new barrier-free toll plaza has been installed at the chroyasi Toll Plaza in the Kamrej area of Surat district, Gujarat. It will replace the existing toll system, where vehicles were earlier required to stop to pay tol charges. This change aims to make travel smoother and reduce the congestion on highways. As part of this vision, approval has been given for this project as pilot initiative to test a faster and more efficient toll collection system.
After the barrier-free toll collection system is implemented, vehicle owners will no longer need to stop in queuesto pay the tol charges. Vehicles will be able to pass through the toll stretch smoothly without the slowing down. This will significantly reduce the travel time and make the highway journeys more comfortable for consumers. In Addition to saving time, the new system will help to improve the traffic flow on national highways. With the uninterrupted movement of vehicles, congestion near toll plazas will reduce, fuel efficiency will improve, and long traffic jams will become a thing of the past, making road tavel faster, safer and more efficient for everyone.

The new system will use Automatic Number plate recognition ANPR technology to collect the toll charges. High resolution cameras will scan vehicle number plates, and the toll amount linked to the FASTag will be deducted automatically. The entire process will be completely contactless and will not require any manual intervention. This advanced technology will make the toll collection faster and more accurate. A key highlight of the system is that vehicles will be able to pass through the toll stretch without stopping, even at the speeds of up to 80 kilometer per hour. This will ensure the smooth traffic flow and a hassle-free travel experience on highways.
